Creating a Theme - Part 2 - WorkShelf

Step 5 - Saving our theme

  1. Skipping the icon preferences (which are not implemented in this release of WorkShelf), we now need to save our theme. Click on the 'Theme Management' icon (fourth down). You will recognise elements of this dialogue from those similar in NextStart, with the addition of a button at the top centre. This is used to select which element we want to save details of.

  2. Change this button to 'WorkShelf' and enter the name 'Sinter' in the 'Theme' box below where it says 'Save Theme', and include the author name (which should be me!). We don't need to save the font as we are using a default Windows font, and we don't want to save the wallpaper as we already have that in our NextStart theme, so leave both of those unchecked. Click on the 'floppy disk' icon and the WorkShelf theme will be saved.

  3. But we are not finished... Change the top centre button to 'Clock' and repeat the process, then to 'Recycler' and repeat the process. You may like to save the voice and sound packs for the clock, but if you don't Workshelf will just use the default packs when the theme is imported (and they make the exported theme considerably bulkier).

  4. When you have saved the three individual theme settings, we can export the theme to a zip file to post on the skins websites, such as Deviant Art, WinCustomize and LotsOfSkins. This is done simply by either entering or selecting the theme name in the drop-down list below 'export theme to zip' then clicking on the 'export' button below it (with the box on). Since we already had the NextStart theme settings and images in our 'Sinter' folder, this export will contain the whole theme - NextStart, WorkShelf, Clock and Recycler.

  5. By default the export will end up in the winstep\export folder under the name of the theme with a .ZIP extension. I have a habit of loading this zip file into WinZip and checking that I haven't included any unneccessary files (my original templates for example) and deleting them from the archive to keep the zip as small as possible.

  6. Now finally, click on the 'Ok' button to close the preferences dialogue box and sit back and admire your shelves!
