Creating a Theme - Part 1 - NextStart

Step 7 - Menu Behaviour

  1. Many of these settings are personal preference (such as those in the 'menu behaviour', 'alignment, 'show folders', 'max items'), and are worth a little experimentation. I generally have them all checked. Now we need to set those which are specific to this theme.

  2. First, we will set the menu overlap to 1 pixel. This will mean that we will only ever get a black border of a single pixel between the menus (which is nice and tidy!). The menu frame settings are 'no frame' and the selection bar is set with just the 'use sel bar' and 'follow pointer' boxes checked (we don't have 'use inactive' checked as we don't have an inactive version of the selected button image, which would be 'buttonis'). The 'blink on click' is a personal preference.

  3. The active selection bar should be set to 'bitmap' and the L.tile and R.tile to 22. We can ignore the colour selectors except the one for text - I've set this to black to make the selected button text stand out from the grey we have used for the other buttons. As we are not using an inactive selection bar, you can leave those settings.

  4. There are further settings for horizontal menus. The only one I have checked is 'sub-menus with no title bars', but it is worth trying the others out. Locking the sub menu width will force the menus which drop down from a horizontal menu to the same width as the buttons at the top. 'Show only titlebar buttons' removes the horizontal menu title bar, just showing the buttons and the endcap.
